TREE PRESERVATION ORDER

Action Arbor Tree Services provide amongst other services, stump grinding, tree removal and tree pruning (sometimes referred to as tree lopping), as well as consultancy by qualified arborists within the North Sydney Council area.

North Sydney Council covers the following suburbs:

Cammeray
Lavendar Bay
St Leonards
Cremorne
Neutral Bay
Waverton
Cremorne Point
North Sydney
Wollstonecraft
Crows Nest
McMahons Point
Kirribilli
Milsons Point

Below is a brief overview of the Tree Preservation Order within North Sydney Council. Please note this document should be used as a guide only.

North Sydney Council Tree Preservation Order allows for the following work to be carried out without consent or permission:

1. Removal of trees that are declared dead by a qualified Arborist
2. Pruning deadwood from a tree
3. Noxious Weeds in the North Sydney Council area (except on heritage sites as indicated in the North Sydney Local Environment Plan 2001, where significant Privet or other Noxious specimens may be required to be retained and managed in accordance with the Noxious Weeds Act)
4. Trees that are being maintained or removed by North Sydney Council staff on land under Council's care and control
5. Trees that have been authorised for pruning or removal by a development consent, but only after a construction certificate has been issued for that property
6. Removal of tree with a height of less than 10m, a crown width less than 10m or a trunk circumference less than 1.5m measured 1m above ground level, except the following species which require to be less than 5metres in height; Port Jackson Fig (Ficus rubiginosa)
   Moreton Bay Fig (Ficus macrophylla)
   Sydney Red Gum (Angophora costata)

Exempt tree species within North Sydney Council are as follows:

African Olive Trees Olea Africana
Cocos Palms Syagrus romanzoffiana

The Tree Preservation Order exemption list does not apply to the following:

1. Any tree on public land regardless of size
2. Any tree listed on the North Sydney Council Significant Tree Register
3. Any vegetation more than 5 metres tall on the site of a heritage item (as indicated in the North Sydney Council Local Environment Plan 1989
